"Given everything that’s happening in the world today, I’ve decided to do something rather different for our next screening. Our screening taking place on Monday Oct 23 will act as a fundraiser for Gaza. The Palestine Film Institute has made a number of films available as part of their “Unprovoked Narratives” series, which aims to resist the demonisation of Gaza and celebrate its people, its struggle, and its survival. I’ll screen a couple of these films on Monday, but I highly encourage you to check out all of them. They’ll be available on their website until October 25 @palfilminstitute

So many of us, especially those with direct ties to the area, are feeling powerless and alone in grief and anger as we witness from afar the violence happening in Gaza. As well as a fundraiser, this event aims to create a supportive space where we can be together and remind ourselves and our community that we are many, and that there is power in numbers. If you want to, you can share your feelings and thoughts with the rest of us before the screening. Let’s find ways of bearing witness, responding, resisting, grieving, healing and caring for each other - together.
So come drink some tea/beer/wine with us and sit in community while we raise funds for the Medical Aid of Palestinians (MAP). They have recently lauched an emergency appeal to provide essential healthcare and medical aid in Gaza.
The screening won’t be specifically queer, but doesn’t queerness ultimately mean saying no to war, to violence, to genocide, and yes to basic human rights, to peace, and to community?
Doors at 7PM, screening at 8PM. Donations strongly encouraged.
Painting by late Palestinian artist Samir Salameh.
