QPIRG-Concordia, 2100 Guy #205 (métro Guy)
This is a 2 hour workshop that explores some of the historical contexts around Indigenous communities in Canada, a brief look at some treaties, and the contemporary effects of those historical contexts. It also includes some practical advice around being a better ally and activist for both individuals and organizations, and a list of amazing organizations and other resources to connect to after the workshop. Food will be served by the People’s Potato.
Camellia Jahanshahi (she/her) is a non-profit worker with a BA and MA in Religions and Cultures from Concordia University, a professional leadership diploma from Cornell University in Diversity and Inclusion, and 10 years of experience working with nonprofits on their anti-oppression mandates and policies. She comes at this work with a joy and solidarity forward approach and loves organizing space and enrichment opportunities for other queer and/or racialized people, and people interested in being allies. In addition to her work in the community sector, she also runs two small businesses and works as a performance artist in the cabaret scene. Balancing several roles is both a challenge and a joy, driven by her anti-oppression and solidarity based values. Her mission is to bring joy, rest, and nuance to the front of the stage.
Virtual attendance is also offered - please email disorientationqpirg@gmail.com for the Zoom link.
