Come for free food, discussion, and a screening of Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance at ECOLE this Tuesday at 6pm.
As we commit ourselves to standing in solidarity with the Kahnistensera against the colonial violence of McGill and the state via the New Vic project at this crucial moment ahead of the Kahnistensera's next court hearing, it is vital to understand the recent history of Kanien’kehá:ka resistance on these lands as we situate this struggle - and our place in them - within a larger context.
Now is the time to remember that these imposed colonial systems will not last forever, and history is in the making.
Dinner will be provided!
Follow our social media and linktr.ee/studentsagainstnewvic to find out about our upcoming events, including a teach-in lunch and art build on Monday, and a rally in support of the Kahnistensera on Wednesday, the date of their court hearing.
These events will all be taking place on unceded Kanien'kehà:ka territory, known as Tio'tià:ke in Kanien'ké:ha and Mooniyang in Anishinaabemowin. We must not forget that McGill was created from the dispossession of Kanien'kehà:ka land and wealth and the labour of enslaved Black and Indigenous people. The struggle against the New Vic is a unique and crucial moment to act towards Indigenous sovereignty and land back in a much more concrete way that mere land acknowledgments.
