James Square, McGill University (métro McGill)
Come grab some free food at James Square near Milton Gates and hear about McGill's latest violent colonial project - the New Vic - and how you can get involved to stop it. Bring some cardboard and art supplies as well to work on a sign for the rally on the 26th while you eat and listen to key info about McGill's appalling lack of regard for Indigenous sovereignty in digging up unmarked graves against the demands of the Kahnistensera, the Mohawk Mothers.
Follow our social media and linktr.ee/studentsagainstnewvic to find out about our upcoming events, including a movie screening of Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance on Tuesday, and a rally in support of the Kahnistensera on Wednesday, the date of their court hearing.
These events will all be taking place on unceded Kanien'kehà:ka territory, known as Tio'tià:ke in Kanien'ké:ha and Mooniyang in Anishinaabemowin. We must never forget that McGill was created from the dispossession of Kanien'kehà:ka land and wealth and the labour of enslaved Black and Indigenous people. The struggle against the New Vic is a unique and crucial moment to act towards Indigenous sovereignty and land back right here at McGill in a much more concrete way that mere land acknowledgments.
