Learn about how fracking/pipelines/LNG affect communities in the northeast of so-called British Columbia, through Wet’suwet’en territory, to the coast to a proposed mega-terminal for exporting methane overseas. The films will be projected on the wall of Place Ville-Marie, home to RBC, lead financier of the Coastal GasLink pipeline which threatens land and water, and the Wet’suwet’en whose leaders have never given consent for this project to cross their territories.
There is no cost to attend. For those who are in a position to contribute, we’ll pass a hat and 100% of proceeds will go to Indigenous land defenders and water protectors.

Fracking the Peace (8:00 p.m. – 35 min.)
Fracking the Peace follows community members living on Treaty 8 territory in Northeastern B.C. as they tell the story of how fracking has impacted their lives. Home to the majestic Peace River, this region has been ravaged by more than 25,000 fracking wells threatening livelihoods, physical and mental health, and the very water that sustains the life and spirit of these communities. Fracking the Peace paints a picture of how fracking development in B.C. has been allowed to skyrocket at the expense of the health and safety of watersheds, communities, and the rich agricultural landscape they called home.
Fracking the Peace was created by filmmaker Desiree Wallace, in partnership with Stand.earth

Fracking the Peace (20h – 35 min.)

Invasion (9:35 p.m. – 18 min.)
In this era of “reconciliation”, Indigenous land is still being taken at gunpoint. INVASION is a new film about the Unist’ot’en Camp, Gidimt’en checkpoint and the larger Wet’suwet’en Nation standing up to the Canadian government and corporations who continue colonial violence against Indigenous people.
The Unist’ot’en Camp has been a beacon of resistance for nearly 10 years. It is a healing space for Indigenous people and settlers alike, and an active example of decolonization. The violence, environmental destruction, and disregard for human rights following TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) / Coastal GasLink’s interim injunction has been devastating to bear, but this fight is far from over.

Invasion (21h35 – 18 min.)

“Tiny House”

Remember me, mother of freedom,
Queen dun know that one leads
we don’t know that upkeep
stewarding while the sun sleeps
clean that dump heap
trash in the oceans don’t run deep
Get a boat man, go recycle
The only hope stands, on a unicycle
Pipelines not allowed underground, rivers or lakes
As forest sway, fires replay, we are the state
signs say, temp too hot
we got got by the rumors, steps are not
hard to see, fossil fuel industry
needs to stop, rules we need
no guidelines, get up to speed
hard to breathe, we all agree
Queen dun know that one leads
we don’t know that upkeep
stewarding while the sun sleeps
clean that dump heap
trash in the oceans don’t run deep
Get a boat man, go recycle
The only hope stands, on a unicycle
Pipelines not allowed underground, rivers or lakes
As forest sway, fires replay, we are the state
signs say, temp too hot
we got got by the rumors, steps are not
hard to see, fossil fuel industry
needs to stop, rules we need
no guidelines, get up to speed
hard to breathe, we all agree
Justice no doubt
Say it loud
Justice, right now
A tiny house
Say it loud
Justice, right now
A tiny house
Justice no doubt
Say it loud
Justice, right now
A tiny house
Say it loud
Justice, right now
A tiny house
There’s Fairy Creek and Line 3,
Scaring me, no planet B
Planting trees
Land defenders standing free
Water protectors, my heart beats
forest fires, we can only start seeds
heat waves, above and, the sun beats.
the made, above and, the sun leads
Land defenders, honour them nth degree
Thank you from the future that breathes
Cariboo with needs, staring at me for weeks
continents, harbor tankers that leak
the ocean that speaks, no justice, no peace.
no ruptures, no leaks, pipelines that need
recycling, in the best way
rights are named, stay West and ...
Scaring me, no planet B
Planting trees
Land defenders standing free

Free, prior, and informed consent
the land worth more than all amounts of red cents
The courts finesse, pipelines are fleeting
this planet no sequel, who you know leading
First Peoples, no pipelines, land is unceded
the stands are for keeping, not for us, they for leaving
old growth, I got more hope
more folks care about this planet, for sure
shorelines, don’t erode
The wheel, is for spokes
who colonized, the deal is get woke
write futures. Speak with humour
Chained to trees just a few ones
years ago, fight the tumour
The cancer, the hubris, the stance is for cougars.
The dance is for movement, this song is for a tiny house
the land worth more than all amounts of red cents
The courts finesse, pipelines are fleeting
this planet no sequel, who you know leading
First Peoples, no pipelines, land is unceded
the stands are for keeping, not for us, they for leaving

This is what the people about
Say it loud, justice right now
A tiny house

This what the people about
Say it loud, justice right now

There’s nothin doing, there’s something in the water
There’s something done wronger, pipelines
There’s nothin, try farther, sightlines
There’s nothin doin, the right time is beyond us
End up tryin harder, …to the right, signs are on us
This might rhyme with barter
The history is dear to me, treaties so near to me, underfeet
Under deep, more than streets, named in the honour, of peoples with some other needs
The TRC
TRC, UNDRIP needs to be rectified
Respected, wise, why, tell me why’s the PM guise
In the form of white men, disguised as white pens
Two pence, backup, the treaties stand in
For courts, Supreme when
Indigenous governance, been around
Before my ancestors been done did seen a white pen
White (out), keep the history, the TRC
UNDRIP rectified, hear, don’t listen to me

There’s nothing doin, nothin foolish
There’s nothin in the water, there’s nothin foolish
When there’s somethin under darkness
Try me, rest, never bet, on peoples smarter
UNDRIP needs to be rectified, step in time
Let me cry, as clearcuts exposed
My tears a no-go, until the no-show, try to
Told those, no foes, we all in the same boat
Boat floats, try the hope, COP26, bold
Starts from grassroots, land-based, stands do
Need to stand true, let the firs stand, truth
So the birds land, too, the first land
Who? The words land true
Hold the youth, right now the youth hold you
#FridaysForFuture, the youth spoke
Speak, few, LEAP, the Green New Deal
Keep going, Basic Income keep going, you or I, rivers flowing
WedzinKwa no token, get to the land, both ways
