For our last screening of the semester, join us in celebrating womanhood and workers rights in MADE IN BANGLADESH a film by Bengali filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain. In its Montreal premiere with special guests.

Shimu, 23, works in a clothing factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Faced with difficult conditions at work, she decides to start a union with her co-workers. Despite threats from the management and disapproval of her husband, Shimu is determined to go on. Together the women must fight and find a way.

Au Bangladesh, Shimu, 23 ans, est venue de sa province rurale à la capitale Dacca pour travailler dans une des nombreuses usines textiles de la ville. Les conditions de travail son très dures pour un salaire de misère qui fait vivre son couple, ayant été mariée de force à un homme sans emploi. Après un incendie dans l’atelier, Shimu rencontre une journaliste qui lui apprend ses droits, dont la possibilité de créer un syndicat au sein de son usine. Elle va se battre bec et ongle pour créer, avec ses collègues, un syndicat.
